Mario Cutajar

Mario Cutajar (b. 1958) is the Chairman of Heritage Malta and director of MUZA, Malta’s national museum of art (since 2022) . He read management at the University of Malta and the University of Leicester (UK) and history of art at Malta’s School of Art. He is the author of publications mainly on the political history of Malta with his latest publication being awarded the book of the year for 2012.

Mr Cutajar was Head of the Maltese Public Administration and Secretary to the Cabinet of Ministers and Vice Chairman of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (2013-22) and held different positions within the General Workers’ Union, the largest trade union in Malta (1988 – 2001) including that of Deputy General Secretary.

Mario Cutajar is the founder and current President of the maltabiennale.art, the first Malta’s own international festival of contemporary art (March-May 2024).
